What is a coupon on Amazon Egypt?
A coupon on amazon.eg is a discount that Amazon or a seller attaches to a specific product. You don't type it anywhere: you tick it on the product page, and the discount comes off at checkout. On a product with a coupon you will see an orange Coupon label under the price, with a box that reads, for example, "Apply EGP 1,000 coupon". On the Arabic version of the site, the same box starts with «تطبيق».
A coupon is not the same as a deal. A deal lowers the price for everyone, while a coupon only counts after you tick it. Some products show both a deal price and a coupon, so tick the box even when the item is already on sale.
How to use a coupon on amazon.eg, step by step
- Open the coupons page: tap Today's Deals at the top of amazon.eg or the Amazon app, then open the Coupons tab. You can filter by department, price and discount.
- Tick the coupon on the product page: open the product and tick the "Apply coupon" box under the price before you add it to your cart.
- Check the order summary: at checkout, make sure the coupon discount appears in the order summary before you place the order. If it doesn't, go back to the product page and tick the box again.
A coupon can have its own conditions. Open the Terms link next to it before you count on the discount.
Does Amazon Egypt have promo codes?
Yes, but they work differently from coupons. Amazon's help pages explain that you enter a promotional code on the "Select a payment method" page or on the "Place your order" page, exactly as written, with no spaces. If you don't place the order right away, the code stays on your account until you use it or it expires. A code you get from Amazon customer service by email is added to your account by itself.
Amazon Egypt rarely publishes one public code that works for everyone, so be careful with long lists of "Amazon promo codes" online: a code that is not tied to a real Amazon promotion is simply refused at checkout. Today's Deals and Lightning Deals
According to Amazon, the Today's Deals page groups three kinds of deals:
- Top Deal: one item, or a few closely related items, discounted for one day or a few days.
- Best Deals: discounted items and ongoing promotions from across amazon.eg.
- Lightning Deals: a discount on a limited quantity for a short time, one per customer, until the time runs out or every deal is claimed. Once you add it to your cart, a timer shows how long you have to finish the order, so don't wait.
When every Lightning Deal discount is held in other shoppers' carts, you will see a Join Waitlist button, and the deal can still come back to you if someone doesn't buy.
How to tell if a discount is real
Amazon explains the crossed-out prices you see on a product page:
- List Price: the suggested retail price from the manufacturer, supplier or seller.
- Was Price: the median price customers paid on Amazon over the last 90 days, leaving out limited-time deals.
- Lowest price in 30 days: the current price is equal to or lower than the lowest price of the item on Amazon in the last 30 days.
The Was Price and the lowest price in 30 days are the most useful, because they compare with what people actually paid. A deal that beats them is a real discount. The Today's Deals page also has filters such as "Lowest Price in 90 Days".
